Welcome to AskYourClass ("we", "us", or "our"), a platform that allows students to share and discover honest feedback about courses and educational experiences, and, where the feature is available, to find and offer peer tutoring for those courses.
By accessing or using our website, mobile app, or any related services (collectively, the "Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Platform.
These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and AskYourClass. Please read them carefully.
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Platform. If you are under 18, you represent that you have parental or guardian consent to use the Platform and agree to these Terms.
By using the Platform, you represent and warrant that you meet these eligibility requirements and that all information you provide is accurate and complete.
To post reviews or access certain features, you may need to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account.
You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
You are solely responsible for any content you post, including reviews, comments, ratings, and **course suggestions or proposals** ("Your Content"). You must ensure that Your Content is accurate, based on your genuine experiences or reasonable suggestions, lawful, constructive, and does not violate these Terms or any applicable laws.
You agree that you will not:
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to remove content, issue warnings, suspend, or terminate accounts for violations of these rules. We may also report violations to law enforcement or the relevant university where appropriate.
All reviews must reflect your honest, personal opinion based on courses or experiences you have actually taken.
Course Suggestions and Proposals
The Platform allows students to suggest new course names or proposals for consideration by university administrators. Suggestions must be serious, constructive, and related to improving academic offerings (e.g., proposing a new course title, focus area, or elective that would benefit students).
Administrators have sole discretion to accept or deny any suggestion. Accepted suggestions may be added to the Platform and become visible to other users, at which point they are subject to the same rules as all other content.
AskYourClass does not guarantee that any suggestion will be accepted or implemented by the university. We do not endorse any opinions expressed in suggestions and are not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or eventual approval of user-submitted proposals.
In general, all user content (reviews, suggestions, comments, etc.) must be appropriate for an educational environment.
Reviews of tutors are user content as well, and are subject to the additional rules in Section 7.
Where the tutoring features are available, the Platform lets students publish a tutor profile with offers to help with specific courses, and lets other students send them a request. This section applies to everyone who uses those features, as a tutor or as a student.
Our Role
We provide the directory and the messaging that connect the two sides, and nothing more. We are not a party to any agreement reached between a tutor and a student. We do not employ, engage, supervise, or represent tutors, and we do not provide tutoring ourselves.
Sessions, prices, scheduling, cancellations, and any refund are agreed directly between the tutor and the student. A dispute about a session is between those two people. We may help by providing information we hold, but we are not an arbiter, and we are not responsible for the outcome of a session, for sessions that do not take place, or for the quality of any tutoring given.
No Payments Through the Platform
We do not process, hold, or transfer payment for tutoring. The hourly rate shown on an offer is an indication published by the tutor. It is not a charge by us, not a binding quote, and not an offer capable of acceptance. The tutor and the student agree and settle payment between themselves, by whatever means they choose, entirely outside the Platform.
No Vetting, No Guarantee of Suitability
We do not check qualifications, teaching ability, identity documents, or criminal records. A verification badge means only that the email address used to register matched the university's domain at the time of verification. It says nothing about competence or conduct.
Grades, teaching-assistant experience, study programme, and every other credential shown on a profile or an offer are self-reported by the tutor and are not verified by us. Ratings and reviews are the opinions of individual students, not ours. You are responsible for satisfying yourself that a tutor is suitable before arranging a session, and for deciding what to pay.
If You Offer Tutoring
Everything you publish about yourself must be true and kept up to date. Do not overstate a grade, claim experience you do not have, or present another person's work or identity as your own. Profiles and offers are reviewed before publication, and a material misrepresentation is grounds for removal of the profile and for termination of your account.
Offering tutoring for payment may make you a trader, a business, or a self-employed person under the law of your country, with obligations that are yours alone. Those may include registering your activity, declaring and paying tax and social contributions, displaying provider information such as an Impressum, and following consumer-protection rules, including the rules on how a price must be shown. We do not check whether you meet them, and nothing on the Platform is legal or tax advice. If you are unsure of your position, take your own advice before you publish an offer.
Reviews of Tutors
A student whose request was accepted may leave one review of that tutor. A tutor review describes a real, identifiable person, so it must reflect your own genuine experience, stay factual and proportionate, and contain no insults, no accusations of criminal conduct, and no personal data about anyone else. Reviews traded for payment or favours, reviews of your own profile through another account, and reviews used as leverage in a payment dispute are prohibited. We may remove any review that breaches these Terms.
Meeting in Person
Where a tutor and a student agree to meet, they do so on their own responsibility. We do not supervise, attend, or arrange sessions, and we cannot confirm that anyone is who they say they are. We recommend meeting first somewhere public, such as a university library, telling someone where you will be, keeping arrangements inside the Platform's messaging until you are comfortable, and stopping straight away if something feels wrong. Anything you are asked to do off-platform, in particular a request for payment in advance, is at your own risk.
The Platform is for adults, as set out in Section 2. Do not use the tutoring features to arrange sessions with minors, and please report anyone who tries to.
You retain ownership of Your Content. By posting Your Content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, transferable, and sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, display, distribute, and create derivative works from Your Content in connection with the operation, promotion, and improvement of the Platform.
You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights to grant this license and that Your Content does not infringe any third-party rights.
Teaching Materials
If you attach files to a tutoring offer or send them to a student, you confirm that you own them or are otherwise allowed to share them. Do not upload lecture slides, problem sets, model solutions, exam papers, or textbook extracts belonging to a university, a member of staff, or a publisher unless you have permission or the law allows it. For those files, the license you grant us above is limited to hosting them and displaying them on the Platform so that students can see what an offer includes.
If you believe material on the Platform infringes your rights, contact us through our contact page with enough detail to identify it. We will review it and remove it where appropriate.
Platform Intellectual Property
All trademarks, logos, designs, text, graphics, and other materials on the Platform (excluding Your Content) are owned by or licensed to AskYourClass. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or use them without our prior written consent.
We reserve the right to monitor, moderate, remove, or refuse any content, and to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including violation of these Terms or suspicious activity.
Upon termination, your right to use the Platform ceases immediately. Some of Your Content may remain on the Platform (e.g., anonymized or cached versions) even after your account is deleted.
This includes the right to deny or remove any course suggestion that does not meet our guidelines or the university's standards.
We may limit, suspend, or remove direct-messaging access for users who violate messaging rules, and we may investigate and report serious abuse where required by law.
Tutor profiles and offers are reviewed before they are published, and editing a published profile sends it back for review. We may reject or unpublish a profile or an offer, remove a tutor review, or withdraw access to the tutoring features, including where a profile is reported, where a claim on it cannot be substantiated, or where someone behaves in a way that puts others at risk.
The Platform and all content are provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without any warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not guarantee that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from viruses or harmful components. Your use of the Platform is at your own risk.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, AskYourClass and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, goodwill, or reputation, arising from or related to your use of the Platform.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless AskYourClass, its directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages and losses arising from your use of the Platform, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms.
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. You should review these Terms periodically.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Germany, without regard to conflict of law principles.
